About

St Giles’ is a parish church based in the Diocese of Durham, and part of the Church of England. We have been serving the people of Gilesgate in a variety of ways for over 900 years.  We hope to be a blessing to our community, as we seek to pray, to engage and to transform.

We engage with people in differing contexts, some of which are traditionally associated with church life, others excitingly new, and one or two that might even surprise you.

We work in a collaboration with our sister churches – St Mary’s, Sherburn and St Cuthbert’s, Shadforth.

St Giles NaveOur Christian Faith

We believe our Christian Faith offers hope for each person and for the world through God’s love. As followers of Jesus Christ we are committed to sharing our faith that all might live in the joy and hope brought through the Holy Spirit. We practice this through worship, prayer and service.

If you are new to the Christian Faith or are unsure of what Christians believe, the Church of England has some helpful information on ‘being a Christian’, ‘being an Anglican’ and how we pray and worship.
